I was talking to a friend yesterday who is considering having gastric bypass. We were discussing what I can eat/drink and the do's and don'ts after surgery. I told her that everyone is different. The things that my pouch can tolerate may not be cool with the next person's. I can eat sugar with no problems...never had dumping. I can drink from a straw (although I do notice that I have more gas when I do). I can eat and drink more now than I could before but I'm never hungry. I still struggle to get enough protein in. I'm full fast so if anyone has a solution for that, I'm open. The upside is that I no longer hate or fear food. For a moment there I felt like an alien. I didn't want anything. Now things are starting to taste more like they used to. It's hard to explain.
But to those of you that are considering this surgery, just be sure and know that you know that you know...that this lifestyle change is what you really want. I have my good days and bad. The bottom line is that I am slimmer, cuter, and I feel great. I guess in the end, that's what you want huh?
